Tikkun Olam

I haven't even visited, let alone submitted anything to the Jewish Blog Carnival, Haveil Havalim, in a dog's age (-and of course now we have to ask that question, "how old is a dog, anyway?"), so it's time. You can read the most interesting posts which went online this past Sunday here, at the Velveteen Rabbi's blog.  I think I stopped submitting posts around number 236, maybe even earlier.  And this one is number 336.  A whole lifetime has passed by. There was a post there which really touched me, about a mother's eternal worrying about her children, from a depth of love that is unimaginable.  It reflects exactly how I feel, and am.  We mothers ought to unionize!

I hate being sick.  Actually, who likes being sick? But I remember, when I was little (now I'm...bigger), still in grade school, I hated and feared school so much that I wanted to be sick, so that I could just stay home and feel the comfort and security of my mother (a"h) puttering around in the kitchen. I remember how I panicked on a Saturday night, and then felt so relieved when I realized that I still had another day of reprieve--Sunday--as I was prone to anxiety attacks the night before school days, and on school mornings, too.  I was afraid of...everything: not getting up on time and being late for school.  Being the 'outcast' in school and ignored, or worse--being laughed at and humiliated.  Failing tests. Being called on in class and not knowing the answer to the question, and thus being laughed at again, by my classmates. Well, as I mentioned above (take that, English teacher; "never begin a sentence with 'well'"), I am sick.  Now, ther...

I can't believe I haven't posted since the last Haveil Havalim, but it's true--I have not had the time, nor the energy, and it's already time to announce the next HH, #300.  It is up and running at To Kiss a Mezuzah , and one post of yours truly is in it. Don't get me wrong--working is great, but it has its perils.  And one of the more serious ones is... not blogging!  Somehow I will have to rectify that...

(One of these days I'll have the time and the courage to try my hand at hosting; right now with our unstable living situation it is not the right time...).

Yes, that famous Jewish Blog Carnival, Haveil Havalim #293 the-post-Thanksgiving-pre-Chanukah Edition is now up and running at Homeshuling . Go, read it.  After all, what else have you got to do? (Um, me? All I have to do is write up my copious notes for my preschool kids' developmental milestones for their portfolios and  read and organize my staff meeting notes and my curricula for the next two weeks. Think I'll read Haveil Havalim...)

Well, you know what they say.  Shoulda, woulda, coulda. . . Maybe I'll be able to blog a little more frequently after parent/teacher conferences.  Nah. Just kidding.  (But I miss it...)

The latest and newest Jewish Blog Carnival, Haveil Havalim (for those readers with no knowledge of Hebrew, the title translates to "Vanity of Vanities") #287 is up and running at Cosmic X .  Yours truly is not in it, but that is because I have not been blogging lately.  It is still chock full o' great articles, just waiting for your perusal, so, to paraphrase the title of yesterday's Torah portion, Lech Lecha ("go forth for yourself") to Cosmic X and read 'em!

The latest Haveil Havallim, #285, entitled " Back to the Beginning "--a very apt title, as we just finished the annual cycle of the reading of the Torah and are starting all over again with Breisheet (Genesis)--is now up and running at Frume Sarah's. (Was that a long, run-on sentence or what? )

Maybe it's because, especially right after Yom Kippur (it was a relatively easy fast, thank G-d), I'm still very hungry--that I think Chaviva's Haveil Havalim (the Jewish Blog Carnival) is yummy!  Go check it out. Why do I want cholent on Sunday, 12:16 p.m.? Oy!  (See ya later. Gonna go down to the kitchen and get some leftover seudat mafseket*! ) * se'udat mafseket : the last meal before the fast of Yom Kippur, eaten this year Friday late afternoon.
