you can 'read' a people by its songs...

IDF - צה

Watch this. Does this video depict an evil people? Filled with hate? Power-hungry? Racist? Imperialist?
To me (and any rational person out there) it shows a people who would prefer to live their lives in peace, and not have to fight for survival. Compare and contrast with certain other nations surrounding them...what do you see?

Had never heard the song before, surprisingly, since I'm a big fan of Ehud Manor Z"L.

There are so many songs that illustrate your point...

Jack: Thank you; have you noticed how the typical Israeli song is hopeful, wistful, or sad ("כל השירים העצובים...")?
That tells you something...
Elie: Yes, just like the others; the older ones, not the new wannabe American Rock ones.
triLcat: Thank you for commenting-I love getting new readers! I didn't know this one either; I am now listening to a song of his, "יש לך יום הולדת " which was written for Israel's 50 birthday...two Ehud Manor favorites of mine are "בשנה הבאה " and "אין לי ארץ אחרת ."
Just like Naomi Shemer's (a"h) passing, what a loss.
(I'm assuming your computers can read the Ivrit)...

The song made me cry, thinking of those who didn't come back and how hard it is "Lishmor al Hasimcha". The imperative is there and there is something comforting about it -M (yes, the London one).
